Question
Hello,I am an Internist.I have a 3 month girl that develops on and off green color(like grass color) stool, sometimes jelly appearance and the rest normal color (yellow-brownish).She is breastfed only and has 4-5 times stool passing/day.she has on and off abdominal colic that seems to aggravate when she develops green stool.Do you think that this is a problem
Answer
Green color stools usually denote intestinal hurry and are due to the presence of intestinal juices in the stools. They are normally seen in infants, patients with non infective diarrhea etc. They do not require any treatment. However, if you find that your child has jelly like stools, consult a doctor to rule out intussusception, though uncommon in this age group
